Mosquitos and Carpenter Bees

February 16, 20252 min read

So let’s turn our attention to two more stubborn little visitors from nature: mosquitoes and carpenter bees. At that point, they just showed up in the yard, parties on deck, and hang out!

Here’s a quick primer of what to know about these tiny annoyances and how to deal with them, in case they choose to invade your space.

Mosquitoes

Ever wonder why a mosquito leaves you an itchy little bump when it bites? That’s because when these creatures bite, they are actually using their specialized mouthparts to sip a bit of your blood, and their saliva can elicit an immune reaction. Besides the itch they can transmit dangerous things like Malaria and Dengue so it’s nice to keep them in check.

Keeping Mosquitoes at Bay

Mosquitoes are drawn to still water; that’s where they release their eggs. Keeping an eye on birdbath, kiddie pools and other places with water also really helps prevent them from breeding. Another good thing to do is to check for areas that might not drain well, especially after a rain, as these areas can become mosquito hot spots.

If mosquitoes are a concern, our pest control team is there to help as well. By killing their larvae, we can target mosquito breeding sites, and we can apply the treatment to adult mosquito hangouts such as bushes and other foliage.

Carpenter Bees

These dudes are notorious for drilling holes into wood to nest. They don’t eat the wood like termites do, but they’re particularly fond of softer, untreated woods. They may have a similar appearance to bumblebees, but you can identify a carpenter bee from its shiny and less hairy abdomen.

Handling Carpenter Bees

If you’ve got carpenter bees, it can be difficult to handle on your own, and we wouldn’t recommend taking the pesticide route. Our team safely removes the honey bees, seals their holes to keep them from returning, and secures your home from any future wooden surprises.

So if you’re handling these little party-crashers and could use some help, just let us know. We’re here to help you avoid pests
