THE MOST COMMON SPIDERS IN AND AROUND ELLENBROOK
Did you know there are approximately 2,400 species of spiders living in Australia? Awesome little creatures that play such an important role in our ecosystem, keeping those little nasty critters in control! From all of them, only about 50 species may pose a danger to us humans.
Sure, we have some of our local spiders, the Redback and Funnel Web, that can be quite dangerous to both humans and animals. If you’re not sure the spider you've seen is one of the ones to be concerned about, get a photo safely and send it our way. We’re here to help point it out and offer advice on what to do next.
Let’s take a look at some spider types you may come across in your home or business, and how to deal with them.
Curious about the difference between ground spiders and webbing spiders?
Ground spiders don't spin webs. Instead, they're ground hunters, often found under rocks, logs, or in leaf litter.
Webbing spiders on the other hand, create webs to catch their prey. Look for these guys in places like window frames, curtain rails, door frames, fencing, and pretty much anywhere they can string up a web.
Pest Control Treatment Options
For webbing spiders
Our general spray treatment covers these critters, focusing on:
The Roof Cavity: We use a dust gun to apply a fine powder throughout the area via the manhole.
Subfloor: A similar dust or powder gets applied under the house.
Internally: We'll spray around skirting boards and into any noticeable cracks.
Externally: Expect treatment around garages, sheds, paths, fences, windows, and more.
For ground spiders
We treat these with a special chemical application to all ground external areas.
Special note on Redback and White tail spiders
Seeing these inside? We might suggest using a smoke generator for those hard-to-reach hiding spots.
What to expect after our spider treatment
Spiders will start to vacate the area, and this flushing out process will continue over the next 6 weeks.
You'll see a significant reduction in spiders around windows (up to 90%!) and even more so for Redbacks.
In areas with heavy initial infestations or lots of natural spider habitats nearby, we might recommend a follow-up treatment to keep things under control.
And if you prefer a more natural method, why not try some miniature chickens or ducks? They’re very good at controlling ground spiders.
After all, many of us (whether we like it or not) live in or near a forest when we settle for suburbia so spiders are inevitable but with our proven methods you can still keep them where they belong – No where near you!
